This is a well written post. I believe Marvin Guye to be one of the best artist ever. I notice you focused on this album and that is good, because "Whats Going On" was one of the greatest albums released Motown. It is ironic that this particular album was highly dissaproved of by Berry Gordy and his quality control crew. Marvin remained persistant and that is why we have this great album available today. The key thing to remember is the time frame it was written and recorded. Marvin created this masterpiece in a time when the world was engaged in a heavy war. His brother coming home from that war and telling Marvin about what he had seen and witnessed was one of the biggest reasons marvin seceded to take a stand with his music.
